The 84th Academy Awards ceremony, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will honor the best films of 2011. The ceremony will take place on February 26, 2012 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The one and only Billy Crystal will host the ceremony again – this will be his 9th time serving as host for the Academy Awards.
It’s the hottest date in the style, celebrity and film calendar and Sunday we will be discussing fashion. This is everyone’s favorite fashion time of the year – right?
In certain circles, The Oscars red carpet produces more buzz than the awards ceremony itself. That two-hour window when stars stroll elegantly displays the results of hours and hours of prepping by a team of highly trained experts tasked with beautifying their client to face a rush of photographers and spur-of-the-moment interviews. Don’t forget, critiquing is going to occur worldwide so looking picture perfect is a must.
For an event as big as this one, there is a team, which often includes a fashion stylist, tailor, hairdresser and makeup artist – and more if you are lucky. The team has to pre plan months in advance and combat through many images, designer’s collections or create custom pieces. At every fitting for an actress' Oscar gown or actor's tux, there is always a superb tailor ready to sew in even the smallest possible portion of fabric or modify a dress fully to match the vision of the stylist and celebrity. Why? Gowns are supposed to be original and fit like a glove.
Stars bring out head turning looks and riskier styles each year and knowing that now more than ever, all eyes are on them. This Sunday, The Oscars biggest question on many of our minds is: what will everyone wear? Who is going to create a fashion faux pas? We’re taking a look at red carpet patterns from years past and this year’s trends to prepare ourselves for the extent of Oscar glitzy and glamorous gowns and tuxedos.
We usually see an array of colorful, risky and disparate pieces so what will it be this year? Fashion seems to be evolving and turning into a more futuristic path. We see a huge difference in the shoulders and sleeve treatment as well as geometric cuts, asymmetric styles and very sharp silhouettes. The overall trend has recently been 80’s inspired blues and greens. Soft nudes are very popular as well. Who will lead fashion in a new direction this year and WOW onlookers?
