ECO-FRIENDLY ON THE RED CARPET 2012

- Farah esmail

Missi Pyle is the first actress in an Oscar-winning film to wear a design from the competition that is meaningful, sustainable and eco-friendly.

The Silent film, The Artist won “Best Picture” at the Oscars 2012 and the talented actress, Missi Pyle who stands 5-foot-11-inches, walked down the Oscar red carpet in a cruelty-free, mineral-dyed dress with natural pigments, “peace”-silk gown (derived from cocoons without killing the silkworms inside). Celebrity fashion stylist, Colin Megaro chose this perfect hip-hugging gown for Missi Pyle. The dress was designed by Valentino Delfino who is the winner of Suzy Amis Cameron’s (wife of “avatar” dorector james cameron) “Red Carpet Green Fashion” design competition. The competition is a proud supporter of sustainable fashion. This gown was pleated by hand under the guidance of Birgit Muller who is an award-winning costume designer. The sea foam colored dress features repurposed zippers and a lining resulting from recycled polyester. Missi Pyle, who later took to the stage when the silent flick confirmed Best Picture, matched the well-defined sea foam dress with Christian Louboutin shoes, Stella McCartney accessories and Chopard gems with a pinned up-do for a soft look.

Missi Pyle made it on the best-dressed list thanks to her incredible and highly talented fashion stylist, Colin Megaro for choosing a ravishing dress 8 days before the oscars – wow! The color was different from any other dress at the Oscars and it made her complexion glow.

Oscars 2012: The complete Academy Awards Fashion recap

The most watched Sunday program of the year: The Oscars Red Carpet.

Fashion. Lets talk Fashion.

Angelina Jolie flashed her skinny limbs with staged poses in this Atelier Versace gown with Neil Lane jewels and Jaime Mascaro clutch. Is the bulky velvet dress too overpowering that it makes Angelina look tiny in comparison?

Jennifer Lopez is the total glam queen and latin mami. She looked unbelievably sexy in the sequined, plunging neckline and figure-hugging Zuhair Murad gown.

Octavia Spencer represented all plus size divas. She has never looked better. Octavia looked flawless, but unsurprising, in Tadashi Shoji, her go-to designer throughout this awards season. This dress works very well for a plus-size woman as it pulls you in to give the illusion of an hourglass shape.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford: Gwyneth looked sleek, sculptural, futuristic and chic. She took a big fashion risk tonight, sporting a quirky cape dress that was unlike anything else on the 2012 Oscars red carpet. Long white tailored gowns are not just for saying, “I do”. She's like a superhero whose special power is cleansing

Stacy Keibler in Marchesa looked like an Oscar statuette just like Oscar winner Meryl Streep who was reminiscent of the Oscar wearing Lanvin - eco-certified fabric sourced by the GCC. Go ahead; match your outfit to the award.

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab glowed in and made a shimmering entrance in her mother of pearl colored, bejeweled, one shouldered gown.

Missi Pyle opts for a refreshing minty sea foam draped gown. She looked ravishing in the hand-dyed organic silk gown was Valentina Delfino's winning submission in the Red Carpet Green Dress competition, which supports eco-friendly elegance.

THE 84TH

ACADEMY

AWARDS

OSCARS SUNDAY FEBRUARY 26th - 7e|4p

The 84th Academy Awards ceremony, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will honor the best films of 2011. The ceremony will take place on February 26, 2012 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The one and only Billy Crystal will host the ceremony again – this will be his 9th time serving as host for the Academy Awards.

It’s the hottest date in the style, celebrity and film calendar and Sunday we will be discussing fashion. This is everyone’s favorite fashion time of the year – right?

In certain circles, The Oscars red carpet produces more buzz than the awards ceremony itself. That two-hour window when stars stroll elegantly displays the results of hours and hours of prepping by a team of highly trained experts tasked with beautifying their client to face a rush of photographers and spur-of-the-moment interviews. Don’t forget, critiquing is going to occur worldwide so looking picture perfect is a must.

For an event as big as this one, there is a team, which often includes a fashion stylist, tailor, hairdresser and makeup artist – and more if you are lucky. The team has to pre plan months in advance and combat through many images, designer’s collections or create custom pieces. At every fitting for an actress' Oscar gown or actor's tux, there is always a superb tailor ready to sew in even the smallest possible portion of fabric or modify a dress fully to match the vision of the stylist and celebrity. Why? Gowns are supposed to be original and fit like a glove.

Stars bring out head turning looks and riskier styles each year and knowing that now more than ever, all eyes are on them. This Sunday, The Oscars biggest question on many of our minds is: what will everyone wear? Who is going to create a fashion faux pas? We’re taking a look at red carpet patterns from years past and this year’s trends to prepare ourselves for the extent of Oscar glitzy and glamorous gowns and tuxedos.

We usually see an array of colorful, risky and disparate pieces so what will it be this year? Fashion seems to be evolving and turning into a more futuristic path. We see a huge difference in the shoulders and sleeve treatment as well as geometric cuts, asymmetric styles and very sharp silhouettes. The overall trend has recently been 80’s inspired blues and greens. Soft nudes are very popular as well. Who will lead fashion in a new direction this year and WOW onlookers?
